Spotlight: Livonia Goodfellows
Spreading Holiday Cheer All Year Round
Founded in 1936, Livonia Goodfellows has been ensuring children throughout Livonia are treated to a fun and memorable holiday season for over 80 years. The organization’s goal is to bring Christmas cheer to children in need by providing them with food, clothes, and presents.
Throughout the year, Livonia Goodfellows hosts a variety of events and drives to help prepare for the Christmas season. On this page, we’ll introduce you to some of this organization’s work so that you can learn about how you can help make a child’s Christmas wishes come true.
Bringing Christmas to Every Child
Each year, volunteers work together to help Livonia Goodfellows uphold its goal of “No Child Without a Christmas.” To do this, they host a variety of toy and food drives throughout the year. Starting in early October, the organization collects new, unwrapped toys for children up to eight years old as well as canned goods and other non-perishable food items.
In December, a team of volunteers sorts the toys and prepares the donated items so that everything is ready to be distributed in time for Christmas. They then deliver the toys to families throughout town so that they can enjoy the holidays with their loved ones.
Helping Others All Year Round
While Livonia Goodfellows’ main focus is its Christmas toy and food drive, it participates in a number of other events that give back to the community throughout the year.
The organization collaborates with other service groups, like Livonia Cares and the Livonia Youth Commission, to help with a variety of projects. For example, during the back-to-school season, Livonia Goodfellows hosts a school supplies drive that collects notebooks, paper, pens, and other materials for school students in need.
In November, Livonia Parks and Recreation hosts its annual Turkey Trot. The proceeds, canned goods, and other supplies are donated to Livonia Goodfellows.
These are just a few of the many events the organization is involved with, so be sure to check their website to see its online calendar and schedule.
