The available Selec-Terrain^®; Traction Management System of the Compass is prepped with a handful of modes, including Snow, Sand, Mud, Rock, and more. There is some overlap with the Escape’s available Selectable Drive Modes. However, you’ll have questionable traction in mud and on rocks, as the Escape’s system doesn’t offer those modes.

On top of this, you’ll also be working with an available Hill Descent Control system in the Jeep Compass. This system will let your vehicle automatically manage its speed when you’re driving downhill, so you don’t accelerate too quickly. Unfortunately, the Ford Escape doesn’t offer a similar feature, making it less fit for driving in hilly areas.
