Powertrain Options
With each trim level, the Jeep Gladiator comes powered by a 3.6L Pentastar® V6 engine. This engine is able to create 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, which is the power needed to take on the trails as well as tow your equipment.
This engine also features Start-Stop technology. This automatically shuts the engine off when stopped at red lights, which helps conserve gas. With this engine, you can either stick with the standard 6-speed manual transmission or opt for the available 8-speed automatic transmission.
With the manual transmission, the 2020 Gladiator gets an EPA-estimated 16 city/23 highway MPG. The available automatic transmission gets an EPA-estimated 17 city/22 highway MPG.
Towing and Payload Capacity
The towing capacity of the 2020 Jeep Gladiator will also depend on the transmission you choose to get. The standard 6-speed manual transmission will give you the ability to tow up to 4,500 pounds in the Mojave and Rubicon trim level.
In the standard base trim level, the Sport, this transmission will let you tow a maximum of 4,000 pounds and carry a maximum payload of 1,700 pounds. If you need even more towing strength, the available 8-speed transmission helps boost the Jeep Gladiator towing capacity to 7,650 pounds. On top of that, this configuration also has a payload capacity of 1,535 pounds.
4x4 Systems
Each 2020 Gladiator comes standard with a 4x4 system as well to help give you great control wherever you go.
- Command-Trac® 4x4 System: This system will help the Gladiator maintain great stability when driving through snow, mud, or any other terrain out on the trails.
- Rock-Trac® 4x4 System: This system, which is equipped in the Rubicon trim level, gives you even more control when off-roading. It can deliver all the torque you need and has a low gear ratio so you can crawl over any obstacle you come across on the trail.
Soft vs. Hard Top
You will also have the choice between a hard or soft top with the Jeep Gladiator. The zipperless Sunrider® soft top is easy to lower and raise whenever you want.
If you choose to get the Freedom Top® hardtop, you can also pop it fully off to enjoy even more fresh air. Even take the doors off and enjoy a true open-air experience!
